One day in early November, Barbara O'Donnell went home early from work because she was not feeling well. Just a few short days later, she found herself fighting for her life in the hospital. Barb had developed an infection that turned septic, causing multi-system organ failure. Thankfully, her doctors were able to isolate the infection and start her on heavy antibiotics. While they may have saved her life, she has a long road to recovery ahead of her. In addition to the weeks she spent in the hospital fighting the infection, she will be transferred to a rehab facility until she is back on her feet.
For those who know Barbara, they know that she is the most giving person in the world. Her spirit and laughter light up any room she inhabits. Barb is the heart of her workplace and the most wonderful teacher to her students. When someone - a coworker, a student, a friend - is in need, "Ms. O" is the first person to show up with cookies, a meal, a place to stay, or whatever she can provide to help. She started the "Viking Care Closet" at North Mecklenburg High School and keeps it stocked with food, clothing, and essential supplies for any student who needs anything, no questions asked. On countless occasions, she has organized meal trains and donations for staff members who have experienced hard times. Now, it's time for us to rally together and pay back the support Ms. Barbara O'Donnell has graciously shown to all of us over the years. She is going to need our help; any dollar amount you're able to contribute will go directly to a fund to assist Barb with medical and cost of living expenses during her recovery time. We love you, Barb!
