Support Baby Banks' Heart Surgery and Recovery

Donation protected
I am making this GoFundMe to help out my friends in this very difficult time so that the last thing they have to worry about is money for medical bills and living expenses.

I had Sandor and Sarah write their story on what’s going on with their newborn baby boy named Banks.

Please read their story and consider donating to help them out during this very difficult time.

We had our son Monday, 12/2/2024, at 11:14 hours. We got to hold him and snuggle him for a while. The nurses said he has a heart murmur but it should go away the next day. Well, next thing we know, the nurse comes in and takes Banks to the nursery, and his murmur got louder. She checked his oxygen, and he was dangerously low on oxygen.

The nurse called the NICU in Tulsa and informed us he had to be transferred down to the NICU. As soon as we got to the NICU, they did an echocardiogram and found a “complex situation.” The doctors informed us he needed to be life-flighted to OKC Children’s Hospital for more intensive care that Tulsa could not provide. He was born with a heart defect called TGA. Basically, the blood in his heart keeps going back out to his lungs when it should go to his body and vice-versa.

He was also born with a valve that was completely closed that is supposed to supply blood to his lungs. The doctors informed us the bottom of his heart is backwards and has a hole that is between his left and right ventricles.

The helicopter came and picked my son up, and due to my wife’s postpartum healing last time with going into a coma, she wasn’t allowed to be discharged from the hospital in Tulsa. They allowed her to take an ambulance ride to OKC and be admitted here.

The cardiologist team in OKC informed us he is going to have heart surgery next week to put a stent in his heart. The recovery for that is dependent on him but should last 2-3 weeks.
The doctors also informed us he is going to have to have open-heart surgery when he is about 9 months old to fix the hole in his heart between the left and right ventricles. That recovery will be more intensive and lengthy, probably around 1-2 months.

Once he is done with the stent surgery and recovered, we should be able to bring him home, but we will have to come to OKC once a week for labs and tests.

Our 3-year-old daughter is with my wife’s mother and is happy and healthy, but we are dying to see her as she is not allowed to access this part of the hospital since she is under 18.

We have a long recovery ahead with potential complications with his health and the health of any future children.

Psalms 6:2-4
Have mercy upon me, O LORD; for I am weak: O LORD, heal me; for my bones are vexed. My soul is also sore vexed: But thou, O LORD, how long? Return, O LORD, deliver my soul: Oh save me for thy mercies' sake.
