Hi, my name is Brooke, and I’m fundraising for my sweet German Shepherd, Bane. He was born on September 11, 2024, and at just 11 months old, he has already faced more health challenges than most dogs do in a lifetime.
Bane’s Heart Condition
Bane was recently referred to a cardiologist for the very first time after tests showed concerning heart issues. He has been diagnosed with subaortic stenosis (SAS) a congenital heart defect that affects blood flow as well as frequent and dangerous arrhythmias (abnormal heartbeats) . These irregular rhythms can put him at risk for weakness, fainting, and even sudden death.
His first cardiology appointment is scheduled for September 23rd, where he will undergo an echocardiogram, ECG, and possibly wear a 24-hour heart vest to track his heartbeat. The cardiologist will then determine what treatment, medications, or interventions are needed to keep him stable.
Emergency Room Crisis
Before he’s even been able to begin heart treatment, Bane had a terrifying emergency. He accidentally ingested a toxic dose of ibuprofen (nearly 5,000 mg), which is extremely dangerous for dogs and can cause kidney and liver failure, stomach ulcers, internal bleeding, seizures, and even death.
He was rushed to the Allure Veterinary Emergency Hospital, where he stayed for several days receiving:
• IV fluids
• Multiple doses of activated charcoal to absorb toxins
• Anti-nausea medication and stomach protectants
• Close monitoring for seizures and heart complications
At one point, he even had a seizure from electrolyte changes. Thankfully, his bloodwork remained stable, and he was able to come home, but the ER bill alone came to thousands of dollars.
What I’ve Already Paid
I’ve been doing everything I can to cover Bane’s care on my own:
• Primary vet echocardiogram, ECG, and sedation (Aug 21, 2025): $956.00.
• Recheck exam, lab work, and Chagas testing (Sept 3, 2025): $495.27.
Total already paid out of pocket: $1,451.27
This is in addition to his emergency room bill and the upcoming cardiology specialist costs.
Fundraising Goal & Cost Breakdown
This fundraiser will help cover:
• Emergency room bill: $3,000+
• First cardiology appointment (echo, ECG, consult): $800–$1,200
• 24-hour heart vest (if needed): $500–$700
• Follow-up bloodwork and rechecks: $300–$500 each
• Future medications (if prescribed): $75–$150/month
• Ongoing cardiology visits/testing: $500–$1,000 per recheck
Fundraising Goal: $8,500
This goal will help cover his emergency bill, cardiology appointment, ongoing testing, future medications, and several months of rechecks, on top of the $1,451 I’ve already paid.
About Bane
Bane is more than just my dog he is my best friend and my heart. I’ve been there for him since the very beginning, and I had the privilege of holding him when he was only two days old. On October 31, 2024, I brought him home, and from that day forward, we’ve been inseparable.
Born on September 11, 2024, Bane has always been full of life and joy. He loves trying new things, meeting new people, and playing with every dog he sees. He doesn’t know a stranger and shares his love with everyone around him. One of his favorite things in the world is being in the water. Bane absolutely loves pools and splashing around whenever he gets the chance.
To me, he means everything. His joy, his goofy energy, and his gentle heart make every day brighter. He deserves the chance to keep living that happy, adventurous life one where his heart condition doesn’t hold him back.
