Support Bailey's Second Crucial Surgery

Donation protected
This isn’t something that I necessarily feel comfortable doing, neither of us like to ask others for help with finances. Back in May, Bailey suddenly tore the dog version of her ACL, we weren’t sure what exactly it was until we were able to get in at the emergency vet. It happened on a Sunday evening, we took her in for the consultation with the surgeon that following Thursday and she needed surgery the next day on Friday. We were fortunate enough to have a reduced price due to the vet having a new surgeon on board at that time. It cost less to let the new vet do it under the supervision of another surgeon. Even with the price reduction we ultimately had to borrow money from family. We were told and warned that the same thing would happen to her other leg, but that it would be another 3-4 years (not two months). On Sunday 07/27 Baileys other leg went out completely. She is again scheduled for a consultation this coming Thursday. The TPLO surgery will be required again. With the procedure it requires cutting the bone and then repositioning it back together with a metal plate. Bailey will again need to be in a cone for two weeks, 23 hours a day in the crate for 4 weeks, then slowly begin short leash walks each day to encourage use of the surgery leg. She will need a sling and assistance to the bathroom for the 4+ weeks. Medications to help with pain and healing. The full length of recovery is about 12+ weeks. She’s just barely healed up from the first surgery. The quoted full price for the procedure is $7000 - this includes medications, and checkup appointments, and the procedure cost itself. The procedure will require bloodwork, medication to sedate her and after care in the hospital for the following night if monitoring is needed.

As many may know, I have loved Bailey since she was just 8weeks old, she just had her 7th birthday on the 23rd of July and I gave her special treats and sang her happy birthday, of course. My heart already breaks that due to the after-surgery restrictions - long term, she is no longer able to do the things she loves most, chasing the ball using the chick-it and jumping up high with a little spin to catch the frisbee mid-air. I cried and cried just worried about how we would be able to afford the surgery once more so close to the other one, and I even questioned if it was worth it. I really don’t know what to do but I can at least try something like this. Keeping her in the crate as long as is required also breaks my heart so I try to give her some fresh air as much as possible.

I don’t expect to raise the full amount per se, but I’m hoping to get a good chunk to start. As many of you know, vets do not do payment plans, and even with pet insurance this procedure is not covered. And even if it was covered you have to pay full cost upfront and insurance reimburses a portion of the amount later. We just are out of options. We’ve considered it all including money out of retirement - and other loan types.

Please if you can, help us out so Bailey can go on and have her time come at old age and not a lack of financial capability.
