This past year has been incredibly difficult for my family. My grandmother, who suffers from Alzheimer’s and dementia, was moved into our family home after we discovered she was not receiving proper care and being neglected at her retirement facility.

My grandfather is in the final stages of stage 5 kidney failure. My mother—who already lives with a disability— and is a stage 4 cancer survivor, recently underwent major foot surgery and was unable to work or walk for several months limiting her income significantly.

As a single woman, the responsibility of caring for my family and family home has fallen largely on me, and it has been emotionally, physically, and financially overwhelming.

With limited insurance support, medical emergencies, several ER visits, and mounting bills, we are struggling to keep up. 

We’ve had a lot of unexpected expenses recently with my family home including broken fridge, plumbing issues and also car (transportation) problems. 

Despite it all, I remain committed to making sacrifices and providing the care my family needs.
