We are a group of USC seniors working tirelessly to bring a production of Sophie Swithinbank’s one-act play, Bacon, to life. Our team is dedicated to creating a space where important stories– especially those of queer youth–can be told, heard, and celebrated.
Bacon follows Mark and Darren, two West London teenagers from different worlds, toggling between the past and present as they relive their teenage relationship. As teenagers, the boys become entangled in a complex, homoerotic relationship, and as their manipulative bond intensifies, so do their fears of desire and masculinity. Their story unfolds as a painful reflection on the extremity of teenage masculinity, where the lines between desire and violence blur, leaving long-standing scars that cannot heal until they are addressed.
We are reaching out to our community for support to help us cover essential production costs. Specifically, we need funds for an intimacy coordinator to ensure the safety and comfort of our cast, for house managers to create a welcoming environment for our audience, and for props that will bring our story to life on stage.
Your support will make a real difference. Not only will your donation help us put on a safe and professional production, but it will also give us the chance to learn and grow as young artists. By supporting our production, you are helping us gain the experience we need to continue building our own theatre company in the future. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings us one step closer to making this dream a reality.
Thank you for supporting live, local theatre in Los Angeles, especially as our city’s theatre scene is small but vibrant. Your generosity helps us tell the important story of queer youth and empowers people to see themselves represented on stage –now and in the years to come. We are deeply grateful for your belief in our work and for joining us on this journey.
In peace,
Demi, Fiona, Cat, and Olivia
