My name is Alysha McClelland and I recently met Kale and Brayanna Hartley and hearing their story about their son Walker has really touched my heart. Walker was born on September 14, 2025 with a really rare genetic disorder. He has 3 duplications and two deletions of genes on his 16th chromosome and the rest is normal (copy number variants). He is 1 in a billion, they’ve never seen his exact rearrangement before and have no idea how it’s going to affect his life. It happened very early on in conception and there was nothing that Kale and Brayanna could’ve done to change the outcome. He has been in the Stollery Children’s Hospital since he was born and Kale and Brayanna have been staying at the Ronald McDonald House since he was born. He had to have a trachea tube surgically inserted as he is unable to breathe on his own and he still has a G Tube surgery and hernia surgery coming up.

Kale and Brayanna have been so positive throughout this difficult time and they will forever be honoured that they have the privilege of being his Mom and Dad. They were chosen for a reason. Walker is a warrior and he’s fighting hard each and every day and they are hoping to be able to take Walker home March 1st.

I am creating this GoFundMe page because Kale’s Employment Insurance (EI) has ran out and Brayanna hasn’t been able to work and Kale has to go back to work in the oilfields to make money when he should really be with Walker and Brayanna during this time. They still have a long journey ahead and each day consists of tracheotomy training to learn the equipment and care and home preparation along with interviews with caregivers, courses, surgeries, etc. and Kale would love to be there for it. He would love to be able to be by Brayanna’s side and there for each moment of Walker’s daily life. We are all praying that Walker gets to go home on March 1st and even that will be an adjustment for Kale and Brayanna and they should be together to support one another.
