Support Baby Sakotah's Healing Journey

Hello. My name is Sarrah Old Lodge and this is my story. On September 27th I was air flighted out from Winner regional to Sanford women’s hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.. I went in for a Nonstress test that morning at 9am and my blood pressure was high as well as we couldn’t detect much fetal movement on the monitor and ultrasound. During the flight there was a fetal heartbeat and upon arriving at the Sanfords women’s hospital, we did not detect a heartbeat. I had an emergency C-section to get our baby Sakotah out asap and try to bring his heartbeat back. It took 13 minutes to get a heartbeat going again. He had 13 minutes without oxygen. He had to be on a cooling blanket for the first 3 days and then was able to be warmed back up to prevent any more damage to his organs or brain. During his warm up process, he had many seizures. The term for his condition is Hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE). During labor and birth, he was without oxygen for a period of time and it causes injury to the brain. He is believed to have more seizures and/or possibly have issues with movement & development (cerebral palsy) and eating as well just because of where his brain damage is. He is currently still on a ventilator and they attempted to take the tube out once because his numbers were good but it was a fail. So they put the tube back in along with a feeding tube in his nose to help with him getting milk that way. He is currently waiting to get an MRA done to look at his heart a little more closely because on an echo they noticed something a little off. They believe his aorta may be split into two instead of one how it is supposed to be. If that is the case, they believe that may be why he has not been able to come off the ventilator completely and it could possibly be constricting his airway. We will not know for sure until the MRA gets done. Once we find out the results, if his aorta isn’t the way it is supposed to be then there is a chance we will be moved to a different hospital out of state. He will have to undergo heart surgery to fix it. As soon as we get the MRA done we will update with what will happen next. We have been up in Sioux Falls since the 27th of September and have not been working. Our bills are paid for the month of October and we are staying at the Ronald house while he is in the Nicu here in Sioux Falls. Depending on the MRA results, we may have to figure out how to follow Sakotah to what hospital they send him to and find a place to stay where he is relocated. I created this go fund me as a way to ask for donations to help with gas, help with any upcoming bills we may have in the future, and any other expenses following Sakotah’s medical journey. Our baby has been through alot in the past 3 and a half weeks and he still has a long journey ahead of him but he is a fighter. I wish he was in a condition to where one of us could come home and work while the other stays with him but every day is different and unpredictable. Our families are taking care of our other kids at home which we are extremely grateful for. We end up having to do new scans and get a lot of different/new updates on his condition. We just want our baby to be 100% healthy and able to come home safely. This is not something either of us prepared for or thought would happen. So if it isn’t too much to ask please donate if you can and we also gladly appreciate prayers! I believe in the power of prayers. Thank you all so much.
