Hi, my name is Sage Bueno — a pretty cool last name, since it means I’m always doing good. Right now, I’m doing a little less Bueno than usual. I just turned 7 months old, and while I should be learning how to crawl, laugh at silly faces, and play with new toys, I’m learning what hospital rooms look like and how to be strong. I was recently diagnosed with leukemia, a word that changed my family’s world overnight.

I don’t understand why I need so many tests and treatments, but I do understand love. My mom and dad are always right there, holding me and taking care of me through every moment — even on the hardest days.

The road ahead includes many hospital stays, treatments, and a lot of time focused on helping me get better.
