Our beautiful, precious daughter Rosemary (14 weeks old) is currently hospitalized at Cottage Children's Medical Center in Santa Barbara, CA and being treated in Pediatric ICU for botulism.
She received the antitoxin treatment and she is very slowly improving. She is being provided respiratory support and close monitoring by respiratory therapists and received a naso-gastric feeding tube to finally begin feeding. She has her pediatrician, nurses, neurologists, PTs and OTs doing frequent assessments, supportive care and adapting her treatments and plan as we go hour by hour.
She has a very long road ahead of her for recovery as it will take a long time for her to regain her muscular strength and function, oral motor function etc. She has still been offering us weak smiles despite the discomfort and we are so proud of her and her resilience, although it is breaking our hearts to see her in this state. We expect to be in the ICU for several more days then she will be transferred to the pediatric unit for weeks to continue monitoring and support from all of the specialists mentioned above. This has been and will continue to be an all-consuming exhausting and challenging experience for all of us.
We have informed many of you already and greatly appreciate your prayers, thoughts, and kind words. We are humbly also requesting financial support as we do not know what to expect regarding hospital bills, we have a long commute to our home/dogs, and there are the additional costs of long term accommodation, food etc. Witt finished Fire Academy and was actively seeking employment; however this search has been paused while he cares for her and until we know more. Riley is grateful to be allowed unpaid leave for the foreseeable future.
If you prefer or feel more comfortable contributing via a different method please reach out to us.
Thank you all very much for all of your support for our wonderful baby girl!
