Support Baby Owen’s heart journey

Donation protected
At Owen’s 20 week ultrasound they noticed an abnormality with his umbilical cord, which can often be linked with heart defects. We were scheduled for an echocardiogram at 28w, where we found out that he does in fact have pulmonary valvular stenosis. His pulmonary valve leaflets are not opening properly which is causing poor blood flow and higher pressure in his heart and affecting his oxygen levels. We were informed that he would be needing surgery within a day or 2 of birth and our prenatal care was transferred to a team of specialists at St Lukes Hospital in Boise and we have been working with them to make a plan for giving him the best care.

Nicole was induced Friday, June 28th and Owen joined our family at 5pm, weighing 8lb 10oz. He was taken immediately to NICU, where he was administered medication for his heart until they were able to get him in the cath lab for surgery on Monday, July 1st. In the surgery they were able to open up the pulmonary valve leaflets to increase blood flow in and out of the aorta. The next days, weeks, and months will be so important, as his heart needs to learn how to “recalibrate” and function properly now that it doesn’t need to work so hard.

We have been overwhelmed by the number of people who have reached out to help in so many ways. We don’t even know where to begin thanking you all for the meals, the visits, taking shifts with our 2 boys at home, and most importantly for praying on our behalf. God is so good and we know that we would not be able to do this without the community of people he placed around us.

Many of you have asked if there is a way to support us financially and we are truly humbled. We have spoken with our insurance and know that they will be covering a large portion of the costs, but the reality of a NICU stay and heart surgery is significant medical bills. All of the funds raised will go directly toward these costs as well as follow up appointments and echocardiograms, medications, and possible take-home equipment (oxygen monitor, etc).

Again, we are humbled by the generosity of each of you but we hope that none of you feel obligated to give in this way. All that we can truly ask for is continued prayers for healing and health for our sweet boy.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for blessing us in this way!

Love,

The Marines Family
