Our dear friends Jason and Taneesha are facing every parent's worst nightmare.

Just weeks before their son Oscar's first birthday on June 23, 2026, they received devastating news that would change their lives in an instant.

After experiencing concerning symptoms, Oscar was rushed for medical care, where doctors discovered a large brain tumor located at the base of his brain. The tumor was blocking the normal flow of spinal fluid and creating dangerous pressure inside his head.

On June 2nd, Oscar was airlifted from Prince George, BC, to BC Children's Hospital in Vancouver with his mom Taneesha. Dad Jason hopped in the vehicle and made the long 7 1/2 hour drive and met them at the hospital. Upon arrival, doctors acted quickly, placing a drain to relieve the pressure on his brain and performing urgent tests to better understand the tumor and plan the next steps.

The following day, Jason and Taneesha received more difficult news. The tumor was very large for a child Oscar's age, located near critical structures of the brain, extending toward his spine, and would require an extremely complex surgery. While doctors would do everything possible to remove it, they could not guarantee they would be able to remove it all safely.

On June 4th, Oscar underwent an 11-hour brain surgery performed by an experienced team of neurosurgeons. After an incredibly long day of waiting, Jason and Taneesha received the news they had been praying for: surgeons successfully removed approximately 80% of the tumor. Most importantly, Oscar's arms and legs were functioning normally at the end of the procedure, and the pressure on his brain had been relieved. While this was a major victory, Oscar's journey is far from over.

Doctors are still waiting for biopsy results to determine exactly what type of tumor they are dealing with and whether it is benign or malignant. Those results could take days or even weeks. Approximately 20% of the tumor remains, and specialists will use the pathology results to determine the next stage of treatment and how the remaining tumor can be safely addressed.

Today, Oscar has begun waking up from sedation and is showing encouraging signs. He is moving, looking around, and continuing to fight through each challenge placed before him. While there is still a long road ahead, his strength has already inspired everyone who knows and loves him.

As Oscar continues his recovery in Vancouver, Jason and Taneesha remain by his bedside where they belong. Taneesha is currently on maternity leave, and was looking forward to getting to work soon in the coming months. Jason, a hardworking millwright and devoted father, will be away from work for an undetermined amount of time so he can focus on his son's care. While they may qualify for caregiver benefits, those supports will cover only a portion of their lost income, and the financial realities of everyday life do not stop during a medical crisis.

Along with lost wages, the family is facing unexpected expenses including meals, travel, accommodations, future medical appointments, and ongoing trips between home and Vancouver as Oscar's treatment plan unfolds.

Anyone who knows Jason and Taneesha knows they are the kind of people who would do anything for their family and friends. Right now, they need the support of their community.

We are asking for donations to help ease the financial burden on this young family so they can focus entirely on what matters most: Oscar's recovery. No donation is too small, and if you are unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser and keeping Oscar, Taneesha and Jason in your thoughts and prayers would mean the world.

Thank you for helping surround this family with love, hope, and support during the most difficult chapter of their lives.
