Support Baby Mylah's Fight Against Laryngomalacia
Donation protected
Imagine driving with your newborn and suddenly she begins gasping for air. By the time you get to her, the baby has turned purple and gone limp. Now, imagine this happening again and again over the course of several days, even after several hospitals discharged her with little to no explanation as to why it was happening other than, “…some infants just stop breathing; it’s normal.”
On May 16th this nightmare became a reality for my daughter Heather and her boyfriend Mikey, parents of 2-week-old Mylah. Three weeks, multiple episodes, and 4 hospitals later, doctors finally diagnosed baby Mylah with Laryngomalacia – a birth defect in her voice box (larynx). The soft tissues that cover the larynx, and open when you breathe, are getting stuck and cutting off the baby’s airway and oxygen. Surgery is extremely risky at her age, and could cause future complications. Right now, Baby Mylah is on oxygen and will remain in the hospital under observation until doctors can determine next steps.
Throughout this ordeal, Heather and Mikey have remained by their baby’s side, causing them to miss work and be away from their other children. Both families are pitching in to care for the other children, while mom and dad focus on baby Mylah. This sweet angel has gone through so much - multiple blood tests, spinal taps, endoscopies, etc. and she continues to be such a fighter! As baby Mylah’s grandmother, I am setting up this fundraiser to help offset the cost of the unexpected medical bills, travel/hotel stays, meals, etc. that are starting to add up. All donations will go directly to the parents’ bank account so it can be used immediately towards bills.
Our family would like to thank you for any donations – large or small – to help us during this difficult and uncertain time. Please consider sharing this post with others who might find it in their heart to donate toward my granddaughter’s medical expenses. We will be forever grateful for your kindness and compassion!
