As you all know, Jake and Kailee recently got married and are happily expecting their first child this September.  We all know that they are going to be amazing parents and they cannot wait to welcome their sweet baby into the world.

Unfortunately, they received some very difficult news at their 30-week ultrasound.  At this routine ultrasound appointment, the technician discovered that the baby has a rare congenital heart defect called Double Outlet Right Ventricle.  This very serious condition will require surgery to save their baby’s life. 

After hearing this devastating news and meeting with a specialist locally, Jake and Kailee headed to Valley Children’s Hospital in Madera to do more testing.  Their medical team confirmed baby’s heart condition and explained that the baby will undergo surgery within the first few days after birth.  This complex surgery is typically 10-12 hours long.  The Mullen’s and their baby will spend anywhere from 3-5 weeks (or more) at Valley Children’s Hospital recovering and undergoing more testing.  If additional surgeries are deemed necessary, then they will need to stay at the hospital for an unknown amount of time. 

Baby Mullen will need to have surgery to survive.  This news is the hardest thing Jake and Kailee have ever experienced together and they appreciate the support of their family and friends.  In this extremely difficult and sensitive time, they ask friends and family to please refrain from calling and show their support through positive thinking and prayers.
