Support Baby Michael's Heart Surgery Journey
Donation protected
On April 16th, family received life-altering news—baby Michael, a precious member of family, was diagnosed with a rare and severe congenital heart defect known as Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS) while still in the womb. Thanks to early detection, his parents were immediately flown via emergency life-flight to Children’s Hospital in Denver, CO—one of the top pediatric cardiac centers in the country.
Michael was born the very next day, April 17th at 3:51 PM, weighing 8 lbs 3 oz. He was immediately intubated and taken to the cath lab for a critical procedure to stabilize his heart. Miraculously, he responded well and underwent another urgent procedure the following day. Since then, he has made encouraging progress—he’s now off the ventilator, and his parents have finally been able to hold him close.
While we’re grateful for every small milestone, Michael’s journey is just beginning. His heart is still not functioning well enough on its own. After trying every possible option, the medical team has concluded that multiple complex heart surgeries will be necessary to give Michael the best chance at life.
Michael will remain in the Cardiac ICU for several more weeks, followed by recovery in a specialized step-down unit. His next major surgery is expected when he’s six months old. In the meantime, his parents are doing everything they can to stay strong for him and his two older brothers, James (age 4) and Luke (age 2).
To be close to the hospital, the family has temporarily relocated to Denver. Margaret will homeschool James while caring for Michael, and Marcus will return to work while commuting back and forth from their home in Billings, Montana. This major life shift has brought emotional and financial strain.
Even with insurance and the support of Ronald McDonald House and generous friends, the financial challenges are mounting. That’s why we are asking for your support. Your donation will help cover:
- Medical costs and out-of-pocket treatments
- Temporary housing and relocation expenses
- Childcare and schooling for James and Luke
- Travel between Billings and Denver
- Recovery needs for Michael in the months and years to come
Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a difference. If you’re unable to donate, please consider sharing this page and keeping Michael in your prayers.
Our hearts are full of gratitude for the love and support our family has already received. Michael is a fighter, and with your help, we know he can win this battle.
“Rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer.”
