Hi family, friends, and beloved community –

 

On 9/2/21, Diego & Michelle’s beautiful daughter, Kira 예슬 Kim, was born after 24 hours of labor and 4 hours of pushing. Due to labor and delivery complications, Kira was born not breathing or moving, and was immediately taken to the NICU. After being cooled to a lower body temperature for 3 days and experiencing her first seizures, Kira’s MRI results showed significant brain damage from the lack of oxygen - a condition called hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) - leading to an increased risk of cerebral palsy, epilepsy and other developmental delays. We won’t know exactly what kind of long term disabilities Kira may have until she grows; however we are fighting to stay hopeful and prayerful in this unexpected chapter of our lives.

 

The priority for this next year is to continue to stabilize Kira’s seizures with medication and to provide therapy (PT, OT, etc) to help Kira grow and thrive.

 

Unfortunately, Diego & Michelle’s insurance does not cover all of the medical expenses. 100% of your donations will go towards Kira’s medical bills (pediatrician and neurologist visits), medication, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and any other medical support she may need.
