Support Baby JJ's Fight Against Infantile Myofibromatosis

Hi there, my name is Maggie Price and I am reaching out in support of my friends and first time parents Ashley Osborn and Drew Derby. In July 2024, Ashley and Drew welcomed a beautiful baby girl Juliet James Derby. Baby JJ was born pre-maturely and has been diagnosed with rare genetic trait called infantile myofibromatosis, or IM. This is a rare tumor that grows in the skin, muscles, bones, and sometimes in the organs of the chest or abdomen. The severity of this genetic condition has caused many life-threatening complications including bowel obstruction, heart and lung complications and a severe infection. She has not been able to leave Children’s Hospital, has already had to withstand multiple surgeries, has been put in a medically induced coma, and her discharge will be many more months to come. She is still facing reattachment surgery 6 to 8 weeks. The resilience of Baby JJ to overcome this in her first months of life has been nothing short of a miracle.

During all of this, Ashley struggled with her recovery from labor and delivery and required an additional surgery and a hospital stay to control her infection. This around the clock care for Baby JJ, her many surgeries and more to come, the necessity of multiple specialists, Ashley’s surgery, personal costs, loss of income for an undetermined amount of time has caused financial burdens they cannot handle.

They are humble, kindhearted, hardworking people who wouldn’t ask for help in this way on their own, no matter how gigantic the financial hurdle gets.

I want them to know that there are people out there that want to help in any way – not just their co-workers, family, and friends- but a community of compassionate humans that may be touched by the unique anguish only NICU parents know.
