Support Baby Hubenka’s Recovery

Hello all, I decided to get this going because so many family members and friends have reached out asking how they can help once they heard the story of how sweet baby Paige has really put her parents through the ringer with her entrance into this world! Local friends and neighbors have already been so supportive, kind, and generous, sending meals and DoorDash gift cards even before we knew the whirlwind we were about to dive into.

Here’s the summary of how we got here: Paige Margaret Hubenka arrived 10/14/25 in the early morning ❤️ a couple of days later at her first pediatrician appointment, they got back a routine test result with a concern, and Paige was then taken by ambulance to the ER at the children’s hospital. There, she began to have seizures and once she was stabilized she was immediately moved to the NICU. It was around this time that I gave Kaila a call, and when she didn’t answer I knew something was wrong and booked a flight as soon as I could get one to Denver. Sister intuition really did me a solid there and I was able to get the last flight of the day to be able to make it to Denver that night.

Paige has been stable since that Friday night, but fully decked out with all the gadgets: 3 separate IVs for fluids and an array of medications to treat anything they could possibly think of that could have caused this, intubated breathing tube taped to her tiny face, a tube from her stomach out her mouth to decompress her stomach and remove any air or fluid, monitors around one foot and the other covered in bandages from all of the heel pricks, sensors all over her chest, a feeding tube, and a head fully gooped up and covered with electrodes for the EEG, all of which was wrapped up in a giant gauze hat complete with a bow. Over the last week she has slowly and steadily increased and stabilized her stats and has been able to have almost all of these cords, tubes, and devices removed!

A few days into their stay, Paige was stable enough to have an MRI, which was what we were told would give doctors the answer to the “why” of this whole situation. After an agonizing few days of waiting, we learned that Paige had a stroke during or shortly after her birth. A terrifying word to hear about anyone, and truly shocking to know that this happened to her just as she entered the world. Our brains are still whirling with this news, but our focus and goal right now is graduating her out of the NICU so she can go home and be reintroduced to her big brother.

Things continue to look up for Paige each hour that passes, and thankfully she is in one of the best children’s hospitals in the country, so they are exactly where they need to be. The staff at the hospital have been wonderful, taking care of each member of the family, offering support in so many ways, and putting up with the insane Auntie who asks a million questions and watches on for every single procedure done . On the flip side, the incredible care and diligence comes at quite a literal cost and Paige will have been in the NICU for at least 2 weeks all told if she gets out when they project. Kaila and Marcus have already shaken their heads just thinking about the cost of all of the necessary interventions to save their baby’s life, but I’d love for our collective families and communities to help lessen the burden on them in this regard. They are going to still have plenty to worry about with Paige once they get her home, she will be leaving on oxygen and she will need to be seen often and be monitored for life in various ways with continuous testing to check for and monitor any changes. Not to mention all this on top of keeping up with big brother Harry! Any help you can give to chip away at one more big stressor that they can’t control would be beyond appreciated ❤️

Thank you so much for reading through and for your support of my incredible sister and her amazing husband. They have been through the unimaginable (and if you know anything about our brother, you’re aware of the added layer of trauma this holds for our family) and I am just so proud of them and how they’ve showed up for each other and both of their kids during this time. I would also like to ask that they please be allowed to maintain privacy and the mental space to focus on healing from birth, navigating this situation, managing their fear and expectations, and keeping it together for their toddler. They’re using all of their strength and composure to make it through each day, so if you want to pass on a message to them, please do so on here so they can feel free to check when they have the bandwidth! I am also happy to provide updates if you’d like to text me. We are all so grateful for your love and support!
