From the moment he entered this world, Hector Paul Molina has shown us what true strength and resilience looks like. Our family learned before his birth that he has a rare, life-threatening congenital heart defect, pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum and a coronary fistula. His journey began the moment he took his first breath. As his Titi, I already love this little boy more than words can explain.

Immediately after birth Hector Paul Molina was transported to Boston Children’s Hospital, where he required immediate, life-saving care. At 5 weeks old, Baby Hector underwent his first open heart surgery. Prior to that, he had four cardiac catheterization lab procedures, necrotizing enterocolitis, dozens of blood transfusions, brain hemorrhages, bacterial infections, a blood clot, breathing tube support, and hundreds of x-rays, ultrasounds, CT scans and MRIs.

It’s been a challenging journey no newborn or new parents should have to endure. His parents, Brittany and Hector, have been by his side in the Cardiac ICU everyday for over 10 weeks since December 3rd. They have been renting an Airbnb during this time and will continue doing so until their son can finally go home.

This has placed an immense emotional and financial strain on my brother and sister-in-law during what should have been the most joyful time of their lives. Between extended hospital stays, time away from work, travel, meals, medical expenses and the unpredictable challenges of caring for a medically complex infant, the costs have become overwhelming.
