Officer Fausti is a US Veteran and an officer at the Cumming Police Department serving as the new SRO at Horizon Christian Academy. Below is his son, Gavin’s, story. We are asking for your support as his family has received news no family should have to receive.

Gavin is only 4 months old, yet he has already faced more than most people experience in a lifetime. He was born with Fanconi anemia, a rare genetic disorder that has affected nearly every part of his short life. Because of this disease, Gavin has now developed early pre-leukemic changes and abnormal tumor cells within his bone marrow. At only 4 months old, the only chance to stop the disease from progressing is for him to undergo chemotherapy followed by a bone marrow transplant. The road ahead will be one of the hardest battles of Gavin's life. Chemotherapy will leave him incredibly weak. There will likely be days when he cannot eat or drink, days when he is too exhausted to move, and days when he simply won't be himself.

Perhaps the most frightening part of this journey is what comes after chemotherapy. Gavin's immune system will be almost completely wiped out, leaving him with little to no protection against infection. During this time, something as small as a common cold or everyday bacteria could become life-threatening. Because of his Fanconi anemia, he also faces an increased risk of devastating complications, including the possibility of organ failure. Every day will carry uncertainty, and every milestone will feel hard-earned and they are hopeful that a suitable donor will be found so he can move forward with his transplant.

Gavin is expected to remain hospitalized for at least 6 to 8 weeks during the transplant process. After being discharged, he will move into the Ronald McDonald House for approximately 100 days so his transplant team can continue to monitor him closely. Although he may be out of the hospital, his fight will be far from over. From the start of chemotherapy through recovery, this journey is expected to last approximately one year—meaning that nearly his entire first year of life will be spent fighting this disease instead of simply getting to be a baby.

During Gavin's hospitalization and recovery, the family will not be able to be around him until he is cleared to stay at the Ronald McDonald House. This means they will be separated for months and both Officer Fausti and his wife will be dividing their time hospital stays and home.

The family is asking everyone to keep him in your thoughts and prayers as Gavin begins the hardest battle of his young life. Every act of kindness, every message of encouragement, and every prayer gives their family strength and reminds us that they are not facing this journey alone.

The emotional strain, time away from work, travel, and daily expenses will place an overwhelming burden on the family, making this journey not only physically and emotionally exhausting but financially challenging as well.
