Hello my name is Marie Cannons, and I recently welcomed my baby boy Booker into the world under very sudden and difficult circumstances. I was scheduled for an induction on November 18th, but the following day everything changed when I experienced complications during labor. My epidural was turned off prior to pushing, and Booker began having repeated drops in his heart rate for hours before I was taken for an emergency c section. When he was born, the cord was wrapped around his neck, and he became wedged in my pelvis making delivery extremely difficult. The doctor had to cut through additional muscles and use a vacuum to safely get him out.
Booker needed help breathing the first ten minutes of his life. The hospital attempted a cooling procedure to protect his brain, but it was not effective. About 5-6 hours after delivery, he was transferred to the NICU in Wausau once transportation was available. They were finally able to perform the cooling successfully. The doctors there believe his seizures were caused by the failed initial cooling attempt.
We are hours away from home, with our newborn in the NICU and myself still recovering from a major surgery. This has been overwhelming emotionally, physically, and financially. Anything you can donate or share means the absolute world to us as we navigate this unexpected journey with our baby boy.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for supporting Bookers healing and our family durning this time.
