Help Baby Bjørn Fight STXBP1 Disorder
Our sweet baby nephew, Two-week-old Bjørn Atkinson, son of Whitney and Jonah Atkinson, has already faced more in life than most. On day two of life, Bjørn experienced his first seizure. Since then, seizures have continued daily, leading doctors through weeks of testing before genetic results revealed the cause: STXBP1 deletion disorder — a rare neurological condition that affects brain function, development, motor skills, and often causes lifelong epilepsy. There is no cure, and children with this diagnosis require constant medical oversight, specialized therapies, and ongoing treatment.
At the same time, tragedy struck the family financially. Whitney was let go from her job the day before she was set to turn in maternity leave paperwork, leaving them without income just as Bjørn’s medical needs began to escalate. Now, the Atkinsons face the overwhelming reality of covering medical costs, groceries, transportation to appointments, and around-the-clock care for their newborn son.
The family is seeking to raise $20,000 to help cover essential expenses:
• Ongoing medical care and seizure treatment
• Therapies to support development
• Transportation to specialists
• Monthly living costs while Whitney and Jonah devote themselves to Bjørn’s care
Every donation, no matter the size, will help provide stability and ensure Bjørn receives the care he urgently needs. If you’re unable to give, please consider sharing their story so it can reach more hearts willing to help.
Together, we can ease the burden for Whitney, Jonah, and baby Bjørn as they navigate this challenging journey.
