Hi I’m Sarah, baby beans mom! In early February we welcomed our beautiful baby girl. Due to my previous c section type, we knew early delivery was possible and due to some unexpected complications our little bean was born at 36 weeks. Unfortunately upon her arrival she suffered some respiratory problems that required a cpap machine to keep her lungs inflated and a stay in the NICU. They noticed while she was in the NICU she was having trouble with feeding, would often stop breathing when eating and was over all too sleepy to take bottle feedings by mouth. Since then although she was “downgraded” to a lower level of the NICU called specialty care, she has quite a bit of a stay ahead of her.
she has several milestones she has to meet in order to come home such as taking 80% of her feeds by mouth consistently, getting her nasal feeding tube out, gaining back weight (weighed 5.14 pounds at birth and has just barely made it back to 5.5 pounds at 7 days old) and keeping it on and making sure she is able to continue to breath on her own without dropping her oxygen while she eats etc. although she’s slowly getting there she’s not ready for discharge and will be in there atleast another week at minimum.
the hospital she’s staying at, is at best, an hour away if there’s no traffic. We’re trying to get her moved to a closer NICU but it’s a longer process than we initially thought. Transportation, meals and care for our favorite little toddler can add up quickly especially since it takes so long to get to the hospital.
although Beans dad was able to take some time off of work for her birth and to help me after my c section , he is our only income and we weren’t expecting for him to need to take an extended time off. As much as he would like to go back to work, he is also struggling to go back to work overseas, knowing she is still in the NICU and has some hurdles ahead of her. Our only focus right now is beans healing and being there for her every step of the way. Any amount you’re able to give truly helps lift a huge weight off our shoulders during this time. If you’re not able to donate, sharing this fundraiser and keeping beans in your thoughts and prayers means the world to us.
Thank you for supporting Baby beans and helping us get her home from the NICU.
