While crossing the street to go to school today, my friend’s 11-year-old daughter, Azmira, was violently struck by a vehicle in St. Louis City. Azmira suffered multiple fractures, including a skull fracture, and is expected to go into surgery soon.

Her mother, my close friend Amy, needs to be bedside with her daughter in the PICU while she undergoes surgery for multiple fractures and thereafter, Azmira’s recovery for days/weeks/months to come.

Amy has been raising Azmira on her own since birth and lives paycheck to paycheck. She had two cleaning jobs lined up this week to pay her monthly rent but won’t be able to complete those jobs without leaving Azmira at the hospital alone.
