Help send Axé to New York for treatment with a comprehensive plan to support his immunity and organ health throughout chemotherapy and recovery. Your support will help us cover his relocation, his stay in New York for a minimum six months of treatment, multiple surgeries, and procedures and therapies that are not covered by insurance. We’ve spent the last month consulting with leading pediatric oncologists in Santa Barbara, UCLA, Stanford, Harvard, and St. Jude's to construct a plan of care specific to our son’s needs and reflective of his most recent test results. All the experts agree he needs to begin treatment immediately; any delay decreases his survival rate. For more information about the clinical trial, please see the links at the bottom of this page. Many of you have asked about donating outside of the GoFundMe platform. You can find us on Zelle and Venmo @ [email redacted]

Our world fell apart on January 6, 2020 with one phone call. We have spent the last five years watching our son’s health deteriorate; a new specialist every few months. Twenty-three doctors, ten counties, spanning the entire medical spectrum. Nobody thought cancer. Like any parent would, we made every life decision about diet and where to live based on optimizing our children’s health and wellness. Hearing that your first-born, 17 year-old son has cancer in spite of all those sacrifices shatters your faith in anything making sense ever again. We are battle-worn, shell shocked, and need your help. Pediatric cancer survivors suffer infertility, cancer relapse or new cancers, poor quality of life, and often die as adults due to the long-term damage caused by the toxicity of chemotherapy and radiation.  Our son has been accepted into a clinical trial in New York that uses an immuno-therapy drug with a reduced chemotherapy regimen in an effort to prevent premature death.

A note from Axé and his five siblings....
Up until very recently my biggest concerns were learning how to shave, minimum-wage, and choosing a car to save up for. Then my parents walked in to wake me up one morning with the biggest pep talk, positivity-fest I have ever heard, to tell me we had a meeting in a few hours… with my new oncology team. I remember feeling numb the rest of the day. Since then, all the supportive words from friends and strangers have seemed like overkill...I wasn’t worthy of it, didn’t need it, save it for the sick kids. It has taken me weeks to write this paragraph because I didn’t want to accept that I’m the sick kid. I’ve been the sick kid for years. Never looking like it on the outside thanks to amazing genes, but worn down with no memory of what it feels like to feel good. I want to feel good and not hurt inside and out anymore.

I’m excited to be a part of the cancer treatment revolution that uses immunotherapy with less chemo. My experience will help create a future with #nochemo. I have been bullied before, to my face and online. Right now I have to face the biggest bully I have ever heard of - CANCER. I am not in this fight alone and I cannot win this fight alone. Please help ME fight, please help US fight. Keep an eye out for #axedcancer. We’re going to axe this cancer out of existence.

My big brother Axé is my source of joy. He deserves the best treatment that will let him be a daddy to his own kids one day.
-Aliazar, 8 mos

My brother takes care of me. He does a lot to help us, he loves and cares for us, even though he doesn’t have to, but he does. And I’m really sad that he’s sick and I really hope that he makes it through.
  -Zoila, 7

When I think of my brother, I think of the times we laughed and played and watched anime. I think of the times he helped me with my homework and made us pancakes.  When my mom suffered a severe burn and had to temporarily leave her teaching job, my brother insisted on getting a part-time job that interfered with him having study time, let alone having a social life. My wish is that he lives a long, healthy life after all his sacrifice.
-Amen, 14

My brother is also my roommate. It has been really hard to see him not be able to get out of bed and be sick so much. I can't wait for him to get better so I can have my brother back. -Aleluia, 10

I love that my brother always jumps on the trampoline with me. -Akeru, 3
