Hi my name is Gerry Dunphy RN. I am an OR nurse who recently volunteered with a Medical Missions Foundation surgical team in northern Uganda. During that mission members of the group reconnected with a remarkable young social worker, Awech Francis, who had worked with previous teams in the area as a translator.
After our work together he shared with me his plan for a community project to help the children in a local elementary school in a rural area near Lira, Uganda. Anwata Primary School located in Abia County, Alebtong District serves around 500 students between the ages of 6-16. Sadly, only about 350 students attend regularly because many children must stay home to help with farming or household work.
The school lacks basic learning materials(notebooks, pencils, chalk, textbooks). Many students come to school hungry, and the teachers do their best with very limited resources.
All donations will be received in my bank account in San Francisco and then transferred via Western Union to the project coordinator, Awech Francis in Lira, Uganda
