Help support Awa's family as they cope with her passing.
Awa was a DCB alumna (and big sister to a current student) who lost her battle with cancer in her brain and spine. The DCB community is seeking donations to support her funeral services and ongoing mental health treatment for younger siblings and mother (or family) to cope with her loss.
At age 2, Awa underwent her first surgery to remove a cancerous tumor on her spine. Two years after her recovery, her doctors found another tumor on her spine and evidence the cancer had spread to her brain. As a 4-year-old, Awa required further surgery and radiation therapy. With the love and support of family and friends, Awa's cancer went into remission for almost 10 years. In that time, Awa blossomed! Despite all the challenges she faced, Awa was a spirited, compassionate, and very funny kid. She was able to go to school, see her friends, and grow stronger by the day.
In the fall of 2025, while undergoing regular screenings, doctors found evidence the cancer had returned. Awa continued to fight, undergoing more surgery and radiation. On January 18, Awa did not regain consciousness following her final surgery.
Your contributions will go towards paying for Awa's funeral expenses, mental health support for mother and sisters, and ongoing family expenses while Awa's mother takes time to celebrate the years she had with her child. Every donation, no matter the size, helps provide stability and support during this critical time.
Thank you for contributing and sharing! Your kindness, generosity, and compassion are a reminder of the kindness and joy Awa brought with her every day.
