I’m creating this GoFundMe on behalf of my dear friend Avery Shaw, who recently experienced a medical emergency and is now working towards recovery.

On December 6, Avery was rushed to the hospital after losing feeling in her legs. An emergency MRI revealed a herniated disc going into her spinal cord, creating a life-threatening situation. On December 7, she was taken into emergency surgery at 6 a.m. for a microdiscectomy and laminectomy to relieve pressure on her spinal cord. Avery’s current injury involves an L5/S1 disc herniation. Doctors diagnosed her with Cauda Equina Syndrome, a rare and serious neurological condition affecting the bundle of nerves at the base of the spinal cord.

Update:

Her surgery was a success. As of early January, she is currently carrying out rehab in the Caribbean, where she will take time to heal and relax for 3-6 months.
