Recently my 6 year old niece, Avery, was diagnosed with a chiari malformation, a syrinx, and scoliosis. This means a portion of her brain is protruding down past her skull and causing a potentially very dangerous fluid buildup on her spine. Next week she goes in for surgery to remove a portion of her skull and vertebrae in hopes of working towards correcting this major brain and spine abnormality.
