Hello!
My name is Avery Mittmann and I am currently a junior at Arroyo Grande High School. I have the amazing opportunity to participate in a study abroad program called CIEE! They are a nonprofit organization committed to providing students the opportunity to travel and study cultures all around the world.
This program would allow me the chance to study in Japan for 4 weeks this summer, July 2026! I would take classes centered around Japanese language and culture in Kyoto. The reason why this trip is so important to me is that ever since I was a young child, I have been deeply interested in Japanese history and language due to how different and unique it is compared to life in America. I enjoy learning about Japan and its culture in my free time by watching informational videos and practicing the basics of Japanese language. It has always been one of my long lasting dreams to travel to Japan and be able to fully immerse myself in Japanese culture by exploring architecture, art, traditions, language, along with cultural norms and customs.
This program is the perfect opportunity to learn more about all these aspects of Japan and would be a greatly enriching experience that I will certainly cherish for the rest of my life!
As an artist, it would be an great opportunity to be able to study Kyoto's unique buildings and landscapes by drawing them and further improve my artistic skills. Also, the best way to become more proficient in the language is to surround myself completely in the culture and be able to learn and practice with locals. I have always grown up being a very shy and introverted person. In recent years however, I have been trying to push myself to go outside of my comfort zone to help me grow. This is why any support and contribution to my journey would be greatly appreciated.
My goal is to raise $2500 which would help cover food, housing, classes, and activities during the 4 week period. Every little bit helps! Thank you for taking the time to read this and if you are interested in donating, please feel free to use the link below. Thank you!
