Avea (9 years old) was diagnosed with an aggressive blood and bone marrow cancer, Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) in September 2024. No parent or child can ever be ready for this news or situation, but Avea and her parents have faced this ugly disease with grace and courage every single day since Avea's diagnosis.
It is our family's dream for Avea to beat this and have her own family one day. AML will steal Avea's option to have children since she is not old enough to harvest eggs from her ovaries. However, there is an incredible medical procedure, ovarian cryopreservation, that can take a portion of her ovaries, safely store it, and when she is older, she can have the ovary cortex reimplanted to produce eggs on her own. But she has been given a short window to do this - January 5th, 2025, and it is NOT covered by insurance.
The procedure is about $2,000 and must be paid in advance along with an annual storage cost of $500. It would mean the world to give Avea this chance to have children one day, but this is a tremendous, unexpected expense for our family, and we're asking for help to raise funds in time. If you know Rhiannon and Taiga, they are not ones to ask for help from strangers, but I have decided that this is a moment I can not stand by and "let" this go. It's unfair for their family. After months of persuading and this crossroad, I have received their permission to start this fundraiser.
On top of medically necessary expenses, constant transportation costs between Colorado Springs and the Children's Hospital, unexpected car repairs and furnace replacement, and taking care of two younger siblings on a single income, they are doing everything they can to make ends meet.
We understand this is a financially difficult time of year, but ANY amount would be GREATLY appreciated and go towards Avea's future. She is such a kind, beautiful 9-year-old child who has endured more than most people will in a lifetime. We are confident she is going to beat this and thankful her parents have enough foresight and boundless love to plan for Avea's life and legacy.
