Support Ava at the 2024 Marathon Canoe World Championships

Hello! My name is Ava Carew, I am a sprint canoe paddler from Senobe Aquatic Club and I would like to ask for your support by sponsoring me as I compete for Canada at the ICF Canoe Kayak Marathon World Championships this September in Metkovic, Croatia.

I am an athlete who has competed in two Canada Summer Games (2017 and 2022), at nine National Championships, Sprint Canoe Worlds and Pan American Games.

Thanks to all of these opportunities, I have several National and International titles, medals and records including being the 2023 C1 500-meter Canadian National Champion, a 2022 recipient of the Roland Michener award, and a Canoe Kayak Canada Coach Recognition award for my work with the paddling community who are differently abled.

I have two upcoming events: the ICF Marathon World Championships in Croatia and the International Sarcidano races in Italy in September.

Helping to fund my travel to Croatia and Italy will help me further my athletic career through fierce competition and allow me to show leadership to my fellow athletes and women in sports.

As a diabetic, I face all of the same challenges as a normal athlete, as well as the challenges faced by a Type 1 Diabetic. I am a full-time athlete and a full-time student at Dalhousie University where I am enrolled in the Therapeutic Recreation program.

When I was diagnosed with Type 1 at the age of 17, there was a period where I was unsure I would be able to compete at my previous level or any level as it was a possible detriment to my health. After a lot of hard work, a long adjustment period, and many steps put in place to keep my sugars in check, I competed internationally, nationally, and in my second Canada Games.

Being able to be where I am today is something I will be forever grateful for and proud of. Being supported through these amazing opportunities allows me to compete in the sport I love. Thanks for your support!
