Introduction:

From age 3, Autumn, my gf, has faced debilitating gender dysphoria. Although she didn’t understand it at first, she always felt out of place in her own body. Whether in school sports or simply using the bathroom, a lingering feeling of unsettling distress has always been something she’s known.

Autumn is a transgender woman who, like many transgender people, has never been able to find peace, comfort, or a sense of home due to the disconnect between her mind and her body. This was the truth of her existence up until she began socially transitioning at the age of 13. Slowly but steadily, she has found herself confidently and beautifully.

However, due to the sad state of our insurance system, there are financial barriers present which actively prevent her from accessing the lifesaving medical procedures she needs. Lifesaving procedures which have consistently been shown to decrease not only the risk of suicidality in transgender patients, but also the severe depression, gender dysphoria, and anxiety associated with being transgender.

The Procedure:

We are seeking your help to aid in our journey of getting Autumn approved for a Vaginoplasty, a procedure which often costs $20,000 to $30,000. This procedure, due to the lack of support federally for transgender individuals, is not required to be covered by insurance in a majority of instances.

Our current position in the journey:

We are currently seeking consultations from plastic and reconstructive surgeons to receive a surgery date. We hope to have this procedure done shortly after we both graduate college.

A peak into our daily life:

Autumn is a semi-professional Valorant player who goes by the tag Aki. In her free time she enjoys playing with friends, attending conventions, and studying for college. She has decided to devote her career to improving trans representation in the field of animation and is working diligently to make that happen as a student. I am also a student. My name is Aerie Bays and as someone who has a historical precedent of health issues, I have decided to pursue medicine and am aiming to begin medical school in 2026. Most of my time is spent either studying, exercising, or joining my girlfriend in a few games that I force her to play with me on.

As students, we have very little income to support us in our journey. This will likely be the reality of our situation until I graduate medical school and begin practicing medicine professionally. This is the reason we ask for your financial support as we navigate this complex and challenging period in our life.
