Support Austin's Fight for a Healthy Life

Meet Austin, the newest addition to the Burr family - the smallest but the mightiest by far.

Austin was born this past March 29th and a perfect little bundle of love, welcomed by his parents with great anticipation. Within a few hours after a somewhat complicated delivery, Austin began presenting with some concerning symptoms, unexplainable by medical doctors at the hospital, and after several days home, unexplainable by his pediatrician. After a multitude of tests, scans, screenings and consults, Austin was ultimately diagnosed with a left sided brachial plexus injury, suspected to be a result of shoulder dystocia during delivery.

Because of the trauma sustained, Austin has had a difficult time performing the simplest and most basic necessary functions such as breathing independently and feeding. His amazing team of doctors has further specified his diagnoses to include Subglottic Stenosis, Laryngeal Cleft, Bilateral Vocal Cord Paralysis and Left Pulmonary Stenosis.

He has recently undergone a major surgical procedure on the 26th of April in an attempt to begin rectifying some of these medical conditions, however the prognosis is still unknown and it has yet to be determined how many more procedures he may need to endure in order to restore these regulatory functions.

For the last several weeks he has been receiving nutrition and hydration primarily by feeding tube and has been intubated and under sedation with the intent to maintain the integrity of his airways, promote healing and ensure comfort.

Through all of this his amazing parents have been taking shifts to be by his side at the hospital as well as present at home for Austins big brother (who is still just a little guy, himself, at a year and a half old) and two older siblings, while also trying to juggle work because medical bills are mounding and family/medical/maternity leave only covers so much...

In an effort to show support and also reduce financial stress, family has started this fundraiser to help alleviate as much of the burden as possible - from medical bills to transportation costs, time missed from work and meals on the go, these expenses add up quickly and should not be another anxiety inducing aspect of what Alan, Ivy, Austin and siblings are currently enduring.

Austin has a long road ahead of him, as do his parents, but there is no doubt in our hearts that he will overcome these obstacles and thrive in his future.
