My name is Aliyah Smith. I'm 16 years old and I'm asking for everyone's help. This is my mom, my best friend, my everything. Two nights ago, while my sister and I were out swimming with friends, my mom was at home in bed watching a movie when she started hearing gunshots. When she went to duck down off the bed, a bullet tore through her bedroom wall and hit her in the back. The bullet went through her back and came out of her right arm. My mom called us to tell us not to come home and that she was shot. Never in a million years did I think I would get a call like that from my mom. My little sister, who is only 15, and I couldn't comprehend what was going on. I was so scared that I was going to lose my mom. When my sister and I got to the hospital and finally got to see my mom, my entire world just stopped. She looked like she was in so much pain, yet when she saw us running through the door, she managed a smile. I tried not to cry because I was trying to be strong for my little sister, but I have never seen my mom, who has always been so strong and put together, look so bloody and defeated. My mom is the one who pays the bills and works her butt off to make sure my sister, my little brother, and I have everything we need and want. But now she can't work, and we need to move away from this place before something even worse happens and we're not so lucky next time. I'm asking all our friends, family, neighbors, and even strangers with kind hearts to help us. Please help us move out of this dangerous place. Anything helps; we just want to leave Colorado ASAP.
Thank you for your support,
