This is a campaign to raise funds for the metastatic breast cancer treatment of Amelia Borgo Aponte, sister, friend, teacher, better known as Aunt Amelia.
Tía Amelia has been a brave and hard-working woman. She was a nun for three decades, until she left the congregation in the late 1990s and began teaching 10th and 11th grade students in the states of Lara and Aragua, Venezuela. She taught subjects such as history, social studies, and civics. Her students remember her as a woman who was devoted to teaching with love.
Aunt Amelia is also an animal lover. Throughout her life, she has had 10 dogs, rescued from the streets (among them we remember Pelusita, Dumbo, and Kiara), two parrots she decided to name Moro, a turtle named Pamela, and ten other cats that have come and gone from her home with that feline freedom that characterizes them.
Now, at almost 80 years of age, she is facing one of the most difficult moments in terms of her health and quality of life.
Last September, she was diagnosed with invasive breast cancer, histological grade III, which has metastasized to the axillary and clavicular lymph nodes, liver, and bones (mainly affecting the lumbar spine, skull, and hip), causing her great pain when trying to sit or walk.
In addition, the intensity of the metastasis puts her at risk of spontaneous fracture, which would require emergency surgery.
Thanks to the support of all of us who love her, Aunt Amelia managed to get through the distressing and exhausting diagnosis stage. Now she must begin her cancer treatments, but unfortunately, her family and friends no longer have the financial resources to pay for them. And the health crisis in Venezuela further complicates the situation.
That is why we are turning to the love and support of all those who wish to contribute to this GoFundMe campaign that we have started to help Aunt Amelia heal. She must begin her treatment plan as soon as possible, which includes, in the first phase, 10 sessions of radiation therapy, divided into one session per day from Monday to Friday for two weeks. These sessions require ambulance service due to the severe pain she experiences.

Simultaneously with the radiation therapy, Aunt Amelia must receive intravenous zoledronic acid and begin oral chemotherapy sessions with Xeloda every 14 days, along with laboratory tests to monitor the toxicity levels in her body.
These expenses are in addition to the costs of medication and medical care that Aunt Amelia requires to cope with the disease and the side effects caused by the treatments.
We are confident that with the support and love of everyone who knows her, those who love her, and those who have read her story, Aunt Amelia will be able to get through this difficult time and not feel so much pain.
We are sharing the clinical studies, medical reports, estimates, and prescriptions for the treatment plan that must be followed for her recovery.
Thank you so much from her family, friends, and all of us who love Aunt Amelia.
