Support Derryk August's Recovery After Hit and Run

Hi Friends and Family,

I hope you can take a few minutes to read this. We have had a horrible accident...

my sweet nephew was the victim of a hit and run last Wednesday March 5th in Lakeland Florida on Hwy 98. My nephew, Derryk August was hit by a car while riding his bike home from work (he leaves the car with his wife who is at home with their 3 small children). He always wanted to be a daddy the kind who is always there for his kids. he never had that growing up. Yet he knew he would be able to do it. He is a very hands on and loving dad. August is at Lakeland Regional Hospital in a medically induced coma, he had two brain bleeds - they had to cut open his skull to relieve the pressure. We do not know yet what we are facing but the doctors have made it clear, he has a long road ahead of him with months of recovery.

August is the sole support for his wife and 3 small children aged 4, 3 and 2 months.

This has come at the worst time possible as his wife has Thyroid issues (so bad that both sides are pressing on her vocal cords and airway) and has a previously scheduled surgery coming up in a few weeks that cannot be delayed any longer.

The most important thing to August has always been to be the best daddy he can be for his children. August is one of the kindest people I know and to be bed bound in recovery for whatever amount of time it takes will be unbearable for him, especially if he is worrying about his family instead of getting better. We have to take some of the pressure off of him.
