Hi!

My name is JT and I am raising funds to cover vet bills and other expenses due to my cat August's recent medical emergency. I am asking for help because this emergency occurred at a very inconvenient time for me financially. When this event occurred I had just graduated from my masters program less then a week before and I am currently unemployed. As I look for employment I am worried I will not be able to cover these expenses and my own cost of living. If you are interested in helping me and my beautiful cat we would be more then grateful! I have written up August's story below to detail the full extent of what happened.

On 8/26/2025 my deeply beloved cat August suddenly developed paralysis in his back legs. This resulted in an expensive emergency vet visit where he was determined to have lost all feeling in his back legs and motility of his bladder. He was given a very slim to none chance of recovering. This was a heartbreaking and traumatic experience for me and the many other people who love August.

Throughout this whole experience August did not appear to be in any pain and minimal distress so my amazing support system and I decided to take him home and take care of him the best we could for as long as he was still happy. Little did we know taking him home was the best decision we could have made at the time.

A couple of days later of 24 hr care and very little sleep we noticed that August was starting to respond when we touched his feet. A little while after that he stated yelling at me for wiping his butt for him, which is a strange thing to do when you can't feel your butthole...

We diligently kept our optimism in check and decided to focus on deciding if we wanted to get him an (again very expensive) MRI in hopes it could tell us what was wrong and if it was likely to get worse.

But during the neurology consult for this potential MRI it was confirmed by the neurologist that we weren't crazy! Somehow August had regained feelings in his legs! We ran an infectious disease panel to check for possible causes and insure it was safe to give him steroids for treatment. We were advised to keep him on crate rest so we purchased on dog play pen and crafted a little home for him to heal in.

After being in the pen for only a few hours August started gaining even more movement in his legs and over the next few days he regained his ability to lift his legs on his own (allowing him to properly clean his butt on his own again), put weight on each of his legs, to take single steps, and then to walk again!

He is truly amazing and we are all very happy that he is still with us. This improvement may continue or it could stagnate. He is still a bit unstable when he walks and has a wiggly butt. But he is happy to have independence again, even if he is still in baby jail for a while longer.
