On Friday, sweet Auggie’s life changed in an instant when he was viciously attacked by a dog while being babysat at his paternal grandparents’ house. Despite their promise that the dog would not be on the property during his visit, it was present and attacked him.

He suffered multiple severe injuries—deep lacerations across his body, including one on his neck that cut all the way to his jaw bone. The attack left him with broken bones near his eye and nose, missing teeth, permanent damage to his smile, and even a small brain bleed. Auggie has been sedated most of the time since the attack, only able to wake for short moments—his favorite being when he watched his beloved trash trucks on YouTube.

Right now, he’s on a liquid diet for at least two weeks and remains in the hospital for antibiotics until at least Thursday. While his broken jaw miraculously didn’t require plates, doctors say he will need surgery in his teen years to repair his jaw if it doesn’t grow properly and to reconstruct the corner of his mouth. He will also need another surgery to remove an artificial tear duct placed due to the fracture near his eye. Doctors are still unsure whether he has feeling on the right side of his face.

Auggie has a long, painful road to recovery ahead—physically and emotionally—and we want to surround him with every bit of love and support possible.
