The Pedro family is facing a challenging time with their 11-year-old daughter, Audrey. A few weeks ago, Audrey underwent a surgery called laryngotracheoplasty with posterior graft (LTP with PCCG). Her airway was very narrow, making it difficult for her to breathe and causing occasional choking. This procedure aimed to widen her airway, allowing her to breathe more easily and continue enjoying activities she loves, like playing basketball, having sleepovers, and being active.
The surgery was successful, and Audrey was placed on a ventilator for a week to aid in her recovery. The family had hoped she would be coming home today, but unfortunately, they received the news that Audrey developed an infection in the skin graft used to open her airway. As a result, they now face another 2-3 weeks at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, and Audrey will need to undergo the procedure again.
Both Jessica (mom) and Marc (dad) work full-time and have two other children. They are both traveling back and forth to the hospital daily. With these two surgeries back-to-back, the major medical expenses, and the constant travel costs, the last thing this family needs is to worry about financial burdens.
Anyone who knows Audrey understands how sweet and kind she is. Helping support the family during this critical time will help alleviate some of their stress.
