Support Audra's Red Barn Inn Soundproofing Costs

The Red Barn Inn, founded in 2010, is a non-traditional 40-suite dog boarding and daycare facility located in West Kennebunk catering to social canines. It is the only dog daycare and boarding facility in Kennebunk and has been cherished by hundreds of families for 15 years. Audra and her fabulous crew need our help. In order to meet the sound ordinance, they were ordered to soundproof around the entire kennel. Unfortunately, not everyone thinks their songs are beautiful, and in order to keep the neighborhood happy the soundproofing was necessary. The problem? It cost over $60,000!! This isn't an easy pill to swallow for any business owner, but especially a small business owner. This is merely an effort to ease the financial burden that The Red Barn Inn has incurred to meet important town codes that, after 15 years, have suddenly been imposed on The Red Barn Inn. Any amount, large or small, makes every bit of difference and is so greatly appreciated!

A note from Audra~

In December of 2022, we went under contract with The Red Barn Inn, and I could not have been more thrilled! I couldn’t wait to have a completely different career and life. My husband and I spent months putting our all into the purchase of this property to make it happen. When we closed, it was one of the greatest moments of my life! Fast forward one month later...I was called by the code enforcement officer and neighbors asking for a meeting with me at the property to discuss the things I needed to do and the obscene amount of money I was going to have to spend to meet town code. Little did I know, after all of the stress and risk of losing everything, that if I did not comply with these demands to make the neighbors happy, I would lose my brand-new business. From that point forward, I would spend countless hours on the phone, emailing, and found myself at multiple town meetings. Even after all the time and money spent, the neighbors and the town of Kennebunk are still able to take me to court if they are not happy with the results. This is a very hard reality of our situation. One that has me stressed day in and day out.

I bought this property because I love every single thing about it. There is a horse barn in the back of the property. It is something I love to look at every single day. I also loved the quaint cute wooden fence I had in the front of the daycare making it feel more like a home, but because of all the fuss with the neighbors, I’ve had to install 10-foot chain link fencing making it feel like a jail. I cried after it was put up. Now, that the soundproofing has been put up around the property, I can no longer enjoy gazing out at my horse barn or the beautiful field surrounding it.

What this boils down to is that I have done everything in my power to keep my business and continue to serve this community and the surrounding communities with exceptional care and love for their pups, whether it's for daycare or boarding. Families leave knowing their treasured and beloved pets are in good hands. Every pup that comes through that door has a special place in our hearts.
