On August 4th 2024 my mother in law Audra stepped on a piece of glass. Due to her neuropathy she She did not feel it. On August 9th 2024 we took her to the ER concerned that she had a blood clot, as her foot and leg were severely red and swollen. She was instantly admitted to the hospital because she was septic. We also then learned that she had a foreign object in her foot that cause a severe infection. On August 11th they decided after numerous antibiotic trials it wasn’t working so they decided to do surgery to remove the foreign object. During the surgery they had to cut her foot open On the top and the bottom of her foot to dig out the infection. During surgery they realized the foreign object was a piece of glass. After surgery She was put on a wound vac and A little over a month later of it not healing and only getting worse half her foot was amputated On September 26th.
During this entire life changing ordeal she was put on “no weight bearing” restrictions. When she was finally told she could walk after 10 months of being non weight bearing, She tried to walk without a prosthetic for 2 months. And than another 2 months with her prosthetic. Her prosthetic caused another sore to form on her foot, which again became infected; and wa at risk of losing more of her foot/leg as it isn’t healing! My mother in law is again back to non weight bearing and has been for the last 4 months.
Due to my mother in laws foot injury and being no weight bearing she needs to use a scooter everywhere she goes. This is extremely complicated for her with the vehicle she has.
Shortly after my mother in law lost her foot her vehicle at the time died as well. She was able to purchase a “new to her van” and was able to get some help to put in some accommodating parts to help her get around with her scooter. However due to rust issues with her new van they were not able to put the parts in.
Due to all of these life changing events I am making this Go fund me for her. As I would like to help get her another new to her vehicle that she can use a trailer for her motorized scooter.
She currently can not go anywhere or do anything by herself without some form of help. And this would give her a little bit of independence.
Please help me make this possible for her. Any little bit helps. And is much appreciated
