Support Atlas’s Battle and Road To Recovery

In June, we took Atlas to CCMC for an MRI after his ophthalmologist noticed unusual eye movements (what many of you know as his side-eye or mean mug lol). During the MRI, they found what looked like a tumor or cyst at the base of his brain, where it connects to his spine. Because of the location, they didn’t want to do a biopsy right away and instead chose to monitor it for a few months.

On Thursday morning, Atlas had a follow-up MRI. As he was waking up and being his usual happy, goofy self, the neurologist came in with difficult news. The growth had doubled in size, and there was thickening at the base of his spine, leading them to believe this was a tumor that needed to be removed immediately.

Yesterday, Atlas underwent brain surgery. The surgeon believes he removed the entire growth and saw no sign of it when he finished. He also took a sample of spinal fluid to run additional tests on what they saw in his spine. This morning, Atlas went in for another MRI to confirm that everything from the brain was successfully removed. He’s still in the MRI as I write this.

This next part is hard to share because we don’t have all the results yet, but I know so many of you are praying, and I want to give you something specific to focus on. A doctor from oncology told us this is likely cancer. Honestly, I appreciate her being so blunt with us and not giving us false hope. She explained that anything growing in the brain is always concerning, and since they see something in the spine as well, it points to certain types of cancer. We are still waiting on results but we will keep everyone as updated and we can as the process continues.
