Hello, my name is Vincent Spanhanks. I have been a friend of Athena's for almost 12 years. Recently, she was hospitalized in Durant and had to be flown to Oklahoma City where she is being treated by a team of specialists and doctors for influenza, pneumonia, sepsis, and cardiogenic shock. She has a long battle ahead of her but anyone who knows her knows she is tough as nails! Once her illness is better, they will do a final evaluation and she may need heart surgery.
I am starting this GoFundMe to help raise funds for the family while they deal with this difficult time. To help with trips back and forth to Oklahoma City and to help with expenses for time lost from work. Anyone who knows Athena knows she is one of the most caring women out there and will give the shirt off her back and do for anyone without hesitation. If you cannot donate, share the post and say a prayer for strength and a quick recovery for her.
UPDATE
Nephrology just came in. They’re calling this ANCA vasculitis. Triggered by influenza A.
The steroids are the first treatment. Then will probably have rituximab which is a chemo drug.
They said it will likely take a year of treatments.
