Support Athena 13 Gold as they journey to AAU Nationals

On June 12th, the Athena 13-1 team will play their final tournament at the 51st AAU Girls Junior National Volleyball Championships in Orlando, FL. This is an incredible opportunity to celebrate their collective and individual growth.

This season the girls traveled to multiple out of state tournaments including Arizona, Washington, and Utah along with several regional events. Along the way, the girls are learning the importance of communication, leadership, and rising to competitive pressure. Their volleyball skills continue to advance as well with impressive digs, higher verticals, timely blocks, and of course, multiple kills and aces. These cumulative experiences elevate their skills and confidence as they prepare for national competition.

Lead by incredible coaches Kristina Thom, and Assistant Coach Kristen Penn, this group of eleven girls continue to grow and elevate with Grit and Grace. Initially ranked 41st going into their first regional event, Athena 13-1 fought and rose to finish 6th place at the final CEVA regional tournament (out of 167 teams).

As the girls turn their attention to nationals, their goals for the tournament include:

1) To play to the best of our ability and ideally go undefeated at least one of the days.

2) To have a match with no team service errors.

3) Be positive and mindful; stay focused on the present.

4) Actively communicate during every point.

5) To have fun and celebrate everything.

In their own words, “it is important for us to go to nationals so we can compete against teams from different regions. Competing against skilled opponents will help us improve our game and enhance our skills. Nationals will also help us bond as a team and create lasting memories.”
