On August 25, 2024, my daughter, Asteria Gary, experienced an unimaginable, life-altering event. While traveling from Atlanta, GA, to her hometown of Warner Robins, GA, to attend a close childhood friend’s 40th birthday celebration, she became the innocent victim of a senseless drive-by shooting.

This devastating incident resulted in a severe spinal cord injury, leaving her paralyzed from the waist down. Since then, Asteria has undergone three major surgeries.

In an instant, her life changed forever.

Currently, Asteria is in a rehabilitation hospital, where she’s making remarkable progress. We’re hopeful that she will be able to return home by the end of December 2024. However, as she begins her long journey toward recovery, she will need significant resources to regain independence and adjust to her new reality.

My home is not equipped to handle the demands of her new circumstances, and the financial burden of medical care, equipment, and essential home renovations is overwhelming.

I am reaching out to ask for your support to help give Asteria the tools she needs to rebuild her life.

Your contributions will go toward critical renovations and equipment, including:

A wheelchair-accessible bathroom: $20,000

A wheelchair ramp for the home: $1,200

Widening doorways for wheelchair access: $3,500

20% of the cost for a Hoyer lift: $500

20% of the cost for a wheelchair: $3,000
