The Yellow House invites you to support its horror short film “ASMRtist”!
Logline: When a lonely ASMR enthusiast is invited to his favorite exclusive in-person ASMR experience, “The Yellow House”, they inadvertently get trapped in a cult-like group seeking to recruit them. Working together with the other guests, they must find a way out before the ‘ASMRtists’ entrap them forever.
Why “The Yellow House”? Inspired by Vincent Van Gogh’s stay in Arles, France, at ‘The Yellow House’ - Van Gogh amassed an impressive collection of paintings. But what makes ‘The Yellow House’ significant is that Van Gogh saw this place as an escape from busy city life, a sense of opportunity and hope to work with other like-minded artists. Ultimately, Van Gogh’s vulnerable mental state led him to infamously cut off his ear in ‘The Yellow House.’ Like Van Gogh, we aim to portray our ASMR ‘Yellow House’ in a similar light - as a place to escape from all the noise and distractions - to collaborate as ‘ASMRtists.’
“ASMR” (autonomous sensory meridian response) is an untouched niche in the film industry that millions of people listen to daily. Whether used for relaxation, anxiety relief, or entertainment, it is a thriving and vibrant community of imaginative creators on YouTube and beyond.
With this satirical found-footage style horror film, we aim to pay homage to those ‘ASMRtists’ while also exploring the nuanced world of ASMR and the dangers of social media’s false perception of community. Everyone deserves to belong, but what happens when that sense of ‘belonging’ is taken from you?
Our crew, which is entirely composed of Chapman’s Dodge College students, is responsible for various aspects of the film production. From directing and cinematography to editing and sound design, each member brings their unique skills and passion to the project, ensuring a high-quality and engaging short film.
We are so excited to share this film with you all! If you would like to learn more about “The Yellow House” and our crew, feel free to visit our Instagram page (@asmrtistfilm) for more information!
