Support Asia's Recovery from Postpartum DVT and PE

My name is Asia and I have 2 boys ages 6 and 8 and recently delivered my little girl 4 weeks ago. I’ve been in really bad pain during pregnancy so I didn’t think much of my back pain and pelvic pressure.

Summary - *Edit* I was diagnosed with severe DVT and PE. I have at least 4 big blood clots from my left leg to my groin (which is the most painful), one on the right. A huge and a chronic blood clot (total of 2) located in abdomen, and multiple in my lungs. Pretty much life - death situation.

The whole thing started when my left leg and groin was becoming extremely painful. Eventually it got to the point my leg became purple. I was unable to walk on with without extreme pain, and I had a big lump that was super tender to the touch.
I went to Texas Health ER on 06/07/24 and they diagnosed me with severe DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis) blood clot and gave me Lovenox which are blood thinner injections (so I could still breastfeed) and sent me home.

The next day my leg pain was so severe without even moving. I could not move it at all or even touch it. I ended up coming back to the ER and told them I had severe tenderness in my abdomen. I then had trouble breathing and had horrible chest tightness. They ran an EKG which turned out normal. Then they ran a CT scan of the abdomen and chest in which they found a huge clot in the abdomen and some small ones in the lungs. I was diagnosed with PE (Pulmonary Embolism) at this point.

I waited 2 days for the surgery, for it to be delayed. Once they put me in the surgery triage room the anesthesiologist came in and said he did not feel comfortable proceeding anesthesia as they did not have all the equipment needed in case they needed to save my life as the procedure was too risky. (As the clot from my leg / abdomen could potentially break off more and go to my lungs making it worse)

I am being transferred to a hospital in Dallas where they can further assist me but after being on maternity leave I was supposed to be returning back to work tomorrow (06/11/25) I will now have to extend my FMLA.

My grandpa passed on my birthday, (06/04) so not only was I not able to celebrate my birthday due to the pain but I was also unable to attend his funeral this past weekend. My sweet baby is still waiting for me and I’m missing a lot of her early days and it hurts my heart that I spent so much time in here.

This is progressing very quickly and they need to keep retesting for new clots. I’m asking for lots of prayers and if possible and /or if you can truly help without putting yourself in a position it would be a tremendous help as we run into this difficult time.

Update 06/11/25: We went through surgery which was super rough. They made 3 incisions, one behind my left knee, my right upper thigh and the right side of my neck. The surgeon stated not only did I have a huge clot in my abdomen, I also had a chronic clot, which means it has been there for at least 6 weeks kicking me back into pregnancy era. They also inserted an IVC which helps filter any clots trying to go to my lungs. The pain in my left leg is still very extreme and the chest pain and being unable to breathe is pretty much unbearable. I pretty much can’t move my body and the cut in my neck makes it almost impossible to move. I never knew I could be in so much pain.

Things will def get better ❤️‍ I can’t wait to see my babies again.

*Pregnancy is rough, please let your voice be heard*

Thank you all so much!

*Edit* 06/11/25 They did another CT scan on my leg and abdomen and I will undergo another procedure. My surgeon mentioned this was the most she has ever taken out.

06/12/25 Underwent second surgery and they ended up adding a stent in my left leg. She mentioned she would not unless she absolutely needed to. Still recovering. The pain meds def help - I can still feel a LOT of the pain (not from surgery, from the clot) I was also told I have Factor V Leiden (FVL) a blood disorder in which the clots arise and spread quickly. This could potentially cause strokes in the future and I will need to be on blood thinners indefinitely.

06/13/25 - my leg feels swollen which is to be expected but my upper thigh/groin is still in very sharp pain. I feel like I can’t make any progress on it no matter how much I tried because of the pain. I was supposed to be transferred to my home facility already… We had another CT scan Abd/Pelvis and I will unfortunately have to undergo a 3rd operation as almost all the stent had closed at the bottom. This time they are basically making my blood extra thin… I told them go ahead and procede cuz I don’t have many options. This will be her last time performing. I need all my guardian angels with me tonight to show their love, you know I would do the same! ♥️

06/14/25 We will undergo a 2 part surgery. The first one will be going through the ankle with a wire containing a slow release drug called tPA, a drug used to break up the clots and restore blood flow to the brain. The second will be to take them out through the knee which should clear the stent.

06/15/25 The ankle is def a sensitive spot and is very hard to recover mobility with it being cut. We also had a couple bleed outs in my neck and my groin area.

06/17/25 I was finally pulled out from ICU and into a normal room!

06/19/25 Guess who got discharged? I still have ALOT to do and recover from. I chose home health rather staying there another week for Physical Therapy cuz I miss my babies so much. Of course I cannot walk the way I did in my video unless tried for a full day of hard work every day but that’s my goal. I’m using a walker as of now but I’m hoping to get back up and running here in the next 1-2 weeks!

I’m still alive and that’s a literal win. ♥️
