Support Asia's Journey Back to Health

Donation protected
On December 21st, life came to a standstill. Asia had been feeling nauseous and unwell for about 24 hours. In the early morning hours, she began vomiting blood. By 9 AM, she realized something was seriously wrong and needed help. Gage and her children were terrified, and 911 was called.

She was taken to the Emergency Department at Adventist Rideout. Mid-sentence, Asia went into cardiac arrest—she was gone. Thankfully, she was already in the ER. The incredible emergency team sprang into action and brought her back after 2-3 minutes. Asia was septic with E. coli.

The infection had entered her bloodstream, reaching dangerously high levels and attacking her major organs, which led to the cardiac arrest.

By the evening of December 25th, Asia was finally stable enough to be life-flighted to UCSF, where she could receive advanced kidney and liver care. At this point, her body relied entirely on life support. She was placed in the ICU, still in a coma, and medically paralyzed to aid her recovery.

Her right arm, particularly her hand, continued to darken. Wound specialists determined that the E. coli likely entered through a cut she had on her hand about a week earlier. Doctors administered powerful IV antibiotics and performed continuous dialysis to clear her blood of infection and stabilize her acid levels, giving her liver and kidneys a chance to recover.

On January 3rd, Asia began to wake up. As expected, it was a confusing and overwhelming experience as she pieced together what had happened. By January 6th, she was moved from the ICU to acute care, a significant step in her recovery.

On January 12th, Asia was transferred back to Marysville Adventist Rideout Hospital. She now receives dialysis every other day and is steadily regaining her strength, voice, and abilities. While her right hand and arm are still not functioning properly, she is determined to recover fully.

The road ahead is long, but Asia is strong and committed to reclaiming her health.

We are deeply grateful to the amazing team at Adventist Rideout and the medical professionals who saved her life. Their quick thinking and exceptional care made all the difference. They went above and beyond, performing life-saving measures that may have been firsts for their ED team. Without their swift action, this story could have ended very differently.

To the doctors, nurses, and specialists who fought tirelessly for Asia—thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Asia has a long road to recovery ahead, including medical bills, rehabilitation, and her wonderful boyfriend, Gage taking time off work to care for their children Lotus and Kai.

Any contribution will help with medical expenses and daily needs. Thank you for your kindness and support.

With love, Kassie Lewis and Tokuno Family.
