Hello. My name is Heyang Jian, and I am studying Film/TV at NYU Tisch School of the Arts.

As a filmmaker and artist, my goal is to invoke emotion - and in this case, I'm making a film about nostalgia and heartbreak. "Clementine" is a surrealistic short film telling the story of two individuals, Luna and Micah, who were once everything to each other. The two are searching for a romantic partner who listens and understands beyond the surface level. Filmed in the city of New York, "Clementine" explores what it means to move on in life despite hanging on to old memories.

WHY THIS STORY?

Luna's longing and love are a mirror to those who aren't in our lives anymore but will forever be in our minds. Where have they gone? What are they doing now? To me, these questions, along with Luna's journey, are the biggest reasons I am making Clementine. It isn't just romantic - it's the friends that you made on the playground in elementary school. The stranger that complimented your hair. Your high school best friend, who you no longer talk to.

"Clementine" promises a trip through memories, dreams, and reality told through the eyes of Luna. Based on my experience from moving to New York City and embracing its lonely chaos, the film explores the chaos of moving to a new location, extreme delusion and obsession, and grieving the last remnants of a relationship that once meant everything.

I am dedicated to producing films that amplify Asian and Asian American representation. "Clementine" is told through the talent of a cast and crew that are nearly all Asian or Asian-American. Our protagonists' Asian background is incorporated into the film, including foreign languages and culture. The crew is a powerhouse in filmmaking, with all of us representing cultures and people who are typically underrepresented in film. No donation is too small and it is very much appreciated.
